The winner of this month's treat basket giveaway is Devin and Sam who sent us this great letter, along with Winston and Franklin!

Dear Leith Petwerks,

I just ordered and received my first package from Petwerks after a long period of “cyber window shopping” on your site. I’m very satisfied with the price and quality, and thrilled to support a family-run, small business that advocates for the well being of rabbits. Your products are outstanding. Many of them I haven’t seen anywhere else. [...]

Please let me introduce my two bunnies: FRANKLIN DELANO RABBITSVELT (black lop, actually female) and WINSTON CHURCH-HARE (harlequin lionhead). My boyfriend and I got Franklin as an impulse buy about two years ago not knowing anything about rabbits. We were completely blown away by her gentle, friendly, fun-loving nature. We had no idea that rabbits could be such enduring members of the family. We have since done a lot of research about all aspects of bunnies. Frank is now totally free-range because of her good behaviors. Winston joined us only a few months ago as Frank’s companion, and is definitely in a teenage destructo-bun phase. He loves your toys. We love the two dearly and I can’t imagine life without them now.

Thank you for all that you do, for bunnies and their owners alike.

Sincerely,

Devin S., Sam H., Winston and Franklin.

P.S. I hope you like my pictures of Franklin and Winston. I also included some of my illustrations I made as homemade treat labels. Enjoy!

And we are very pleased to meet Chewy (short for Chewbacca). He had some tough times, but has found a fantastic home with Rob!

Chewy was abandoned in a grocery store parking lot. Somewhere between his past owner & the grocery store parking lot, he lost his right eye. Whoever found him called a local vet & they sent their rescue person to the grocery store to pick him up.

They took him back to the vet, who operated on his eye. At first, the rescue person was going to keep him. But when she took him to her home, there was a dominance conflict with her other rabbit. I guess there was quite the fight & Chewy sustained some rips to his poor ears. My soon to be daughter in law, who works in The Pet Store Next Door, called me & asked if I would be interested in adopting him.

At first I struggled with the idea of caring for a one eyed rabbit. I went to the pet store to meet him & fell in love with him on sight. The next day I took him home. Despite what he's been through, his playfulness & spirit are still intact. He's the most affectionate rabbit I've ever seen. A true pleasure to have as a friend. I can't imagine life without him.

Monmouth County man fined $2K for releasing pet rabbit into wild
Following Easter, shelters and rescue organizations see a surge in abandonment, and animal control agencies are often called about domesticated rabbits running lose in the wild. While most people with any common sense realize this is not a good thing, that doesn't stop people. But perhaps a charge of abandonment and failure to provide foot, water and shelter along with a $2000 fine will make people think twice!
