CarrotPetwerks News: New items, ordering Critical Care, and Condos in Seattle area!
by Amy Young-Leith

New items: We are always looking for new fun items for you and your rabbits! Check out our new items page for some of the newest!

. . .

Critical Care: We've always sold Critical Care, but it's hard to know that -- Oxbow won't allow retailers to sell it online. (Yes, some companies may list it on their site, but at some point Oxbow is going to contact them and ask them to take it down, as they did us.) I don't know why, exactly; you'd have to ask them that, and I've not gotten a good answer to the question myself. The point is... we do have it, and we'd be happy to provide it to you. Two sizes, and two flavors: 5 ounce packs and 1 lb pouches of Original or Apple Banana flavor. Yum! Simply call us to place your order for this item. It's nice to chat now and then, anyway!

See and buy condos at Best Little Rabbit, Rodent and Ferret House: Leith Petwerks Bunny Abode Condos are on display and available for purchase at the store run by this rescue organization. A purchase here will help them, and us! You'll find them at:

CarrotGrant Program Update and Recent Donations
by Scot Leith

Grant program: We are almost there! At the end of this month, we will pick our FIRST grant winner! If you haven't done so already, please visit our web site and vote for your favorite organization. And tell others to do so as well! (Only one vote per computer counts, so don't bother to do it again if you've already done so.)

Recent donations: You know how we're always talking about how we donate of our time, money and resources? Well here's just a sample from recent weeks.

NIRO Fancy Rat Show: we donated a basket of goodies to be given away.

House Rabbit Resource Network: A condo was sent to the 15th Anniversary silent auction!

Colorado HRS: A condo was sent to their Spring Fling for use in the silent auction.

Country Kids 4-H Club: Some clubs do more than others to emphasize the value of rabbits as individuals and companion animals. We try to help out those that do. We donated a basket of goodies to be used in the Rabbit Fun Show.

The Rabbit Haven: BunnyFest 2008 is a great event, and we sent oodles of stuff including a condo and a dozen Vacation Villas to the event for use as giveaways and fundraisers.

National House Rabbit Society: In honor of the 20th Anniversary event, we donated over $1000 of goodies!

Thanks to all our friends at groups and organizations who help spread the word about our little business. By helping us, you help us be able to continue not only to offer great products, but also continue to help other organizations do the great work they do.

CarrotBunny Ten Commandments
by Scot Leith

Bob with Rabbit Advocates refashioned a piece read by Paul Harvey about dogs into The Ten Commandments for Bunny Moms & Dads. If you're reading this newsletter, you'll know them. But perhaps there is someone new to rabbits that you could share them with? Pass it on!

The Ten Commandments for Bunny Moms & Dads
  1. My life can last ten to twelve years, with good care. Any separation from you will be painful for me. Consider this before you adopt me.

  2. I am not a dog or a cat. I behave like a rabbit. Take the time to study and learn why I behave as I do. When you understand me, your expectations will be realistic.

  3. Please provide me a clean and safe place to live, and I will trust you. In my safe place, make sure I have proper food and water to keep me healthy.

  4. Don’t just leave me in my cage. I am very social. I need supervised exercise time, and love to interact with my family. You have your work, your friends, and entertainment. I ONLY HAVE YOU.

  5. Talk to me. Even if I don’t understand your words, I understand your voice when you are speaking to me. Be aware that, however you treat me, I will not forget.

  6. Remember that I don’t understand punishment. Never hit me. I would have no idea what that was about. I am very delicate, and easily injured.

  7. Before you become impatient with me for being uncooperative, obstinate, or reclusive, ask yourself if something may be bothering me. Perhaps I’m not feeling well. We rabbits are prey animals and hide our pain very well. Maybe my tummy hurts or I have an infection, or I’m just aging. Sudden changes in behavior often indicate a life-threatening emergency, so take me to my bunny doctor WITHOUT DELAY.

  8. Take care of me when I get old. You, too, will get old.

  9. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say “I can’t bear to watch,” Or “Let it happen in my absence.” EVERYTHING IS EASIER IF YOU ARE THERE.

  10. Remember, I LOVE YOU.

This is Zipper! I laughed when I got the original message, because the filename for the attached photo was "fatbun.jpg." You're not fat... you're just FLUFFY!
.
The darling Elissa is only three months old in this photo. Mom Denise notes that now she's even a bigger "Jurassic thump."
.
Barbara presents "The Three Amigos," Flower, Clover and Cutie Pie. When I saw this I couldn't help but sing to myself, "Which one of these is not like the other?"

Quite randomly I found this t-shirt design. I like it!

Learn how to draw a bunny!
Here is a great little quick tutorial for how to draw an adorable rabbit!

Does Bugs Bunny show the full monte?
Don't ask me how I found this: an urban legend of Bugs Bunny showing it all in a cartoon is debunked on Snopes.
